This past Saturday, 3/12/22, was the Leprechaun Leap 10K in Woodinville. This was the first real race I’ve in a number of years, and the outcome was not guaranteed. The opening mile was way too fast, by about 25 seconds, but I managed to hold the desired pace from there on out without blowing up, so I guess I didn’t screw up too badly. As is usual, a lot of others started even “way too fast”er than I did, so I gained a few places along the way. One was a 14 year old kid that I hung with a bit after the 4 mile water stop, then passed him as he faded in the final mile (he didn’t lose much too me, though). I later went to the awards table to collect my age group award, and there was Brody hoping he got an award, too. Sadly, he got third in his age group, despite running a 10K faster than I ever did when I was his age (best I can remember, anyway). There were some fast kids out there, and fast adults, too, as I didn’t even crack the top 10. I’m also old now, too. 🙂
But speaking of age group awards, yes, I won the 51-60 group, and 13th overall. As we stood around the awards table while I got my picture taken by a race volunteer, I also spoke to the person who I think was second place in my age group and had to break the news to him that, no, you did not win. I’ll bump your fist, though, in recognition of a race well run.
My individual results are at this link.
